Are Exotic Car Manufacturers Edging Toward Electric Models?

Posted on August 23, 2024 in Exotic Car Maintenance

MD exotic car specialistWhile electric motors have made significant advances in terms of performance, exotic cars must have over-the-top performance and handling that may be limited by electric battery weight. Exotic cars, often called "supercars," showcase what internal combustion can deliver as they battle for the title of the fastest car with the best handling.

Lotus has an all-electric model called the Evija, which translates into "the first in existence." The Evija delivers considerably more power than the Rimac Nevera and has cut no corners in performance or appearance. At a lean 3,703 pounds, the Evija is the lightest pure-electric hypercar. With a hefty price tag of more than $2 million, it is important to remember that the Evija is made for the tracks and is not street-legal. Evija recorded a lap time in Nürburgring of six minutes and 24 seconds.

Regardless of whether an exotic car is electric or gas, high-performance vehicles require regular maintenance and highly skilled, targeted repair services. These finely tuned luxury vehicles have known conditions, and to keep them in top-notch shape, the service provider you choose really matters. Those curious about whether more exotic electric models will soon be joining the lineup might be interested in the information below about electric supercars. While many of these are currently only racing vehicles, there are a few that are street-legal.

Lamborghini Terzo Millennio

The Lamborghini Miura is often cited as the first supercar. With a top speed of 280 km and an acceleration of 0-63 mph in 6.7 seconds, the Miura was truly an amazing car for its time. Combining energy efficiency with innovative materials and design, the electric Terzo Millennio is currently only available in Europe; however, it is expected that this Lamborghini model will make its way to the U.S. within the next year or so. The top speed of the Terzo Millennio is 325 201 mph, with an acceleration of 0-63 mph in 1.9 seconds.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is the first Ferrari PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle). It accelerates from 0 to 63 mph in 2.5 seconds, implementing an internal combustion engine integrated with three electric motors. One of the electric motors is independent and located on the front axle, while another is at the rear, between the gearbox and the engine. The SF90 Stradale has a top speed of 211 mph.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Porsche’s hybrid-powered supercar is lightweight, innovative, and, according to many, has "mind-blowing" performance. The Porsche Spyder 918 was launched in 2014, and it made a splash in the supercar category heard around the world. The 918 Spyder has twin electric motors, which deliver a top speed of 214 mph, with a 0-63 mph acceleration of 2.6 seconds. This electric Porsche model uses magnesium and carbon in the construction to keep the weight low at 3,690 pounds, despite the weight of the electric batteries. Breaking the lap time around the Nürburgring is a "yardstick" of sorts for any sportscar. The 918 Spyder has accomplished this feat on more than one occasion.

Porsche Taycan Turbo S

The electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S sports car is street-legal and has a 0-60 mph acceleration of 2.3 seconds. It also has Overboost Power with Launch Control and a top track speed of 162 mph. With a 266-mile range and a fast-charging time of 18 minutes, the Taycan Turbo S provides exceptional style, speed, handling, and the Porsche name, which is well-known for excellence. The Taycan can easily transition from the racetrack to the road with track mode and Push-to-Pass.
